I was flipping through a newspaper this week and I came across something that in all honesty I've never really read through - the personal ads.

Go ahead, laugh at the lonely sports writer that has to fill his weekends by playing eenie, meanie, miney moe in the personals. Not really, but I'll never live this one down. I came across an ad that said 'Random female, not afraid to be blunt. Must enjoy skating, people-watching and the Beatles. Australian accent a plus.' Yeah, I wrote the number down. Who wouldn't? Sure the date may get a little crazy, but there's no way she'll lose my attention.

It's kind of funny how Saturdays in the fall workout the same way. This week is no exception considering we could see a 27-game winning streak come to an end, another loss in The Horseshoe and a former perennial powerhouse come even closer to its return to glory.

But if you see someone roller blading through memorial circle, singing the 'na, na, na' part of Hey Jude, and referring to people as 'mate' - be happy for me. Sports writers need lovin' too.

The Buckeyes certainly didn't plan on having two loses entering their sixth game of the season, but it happened - now they have to deal with it. Another loss and Ohio Sate can forget about an appearance in the Big 10 title game and probably the BCS. Michigan State can't be happy after losing a 34-31 thriller to in-state rival Michigan two weeks ago. Also if you scan the list of the nation's top offenses, you wouldn't expect to see the Spartans averaging 575 yards a contest - good for No. 2 in the country. With the Buckeye's ranking fourth in total defense something's got to give. Michigan State is 2-0 away from Lansing this year, but playing in Columbus isn't your average road trip...

I know, I know, why preview this game instead of something like LSU and Florida, or even Texas and Colorado. Well because don't look now, but the Nittany Lions have forced their way into the BCS picture. Watching their inspired performance over Ohio State last weekend, Joe Paterno has made me a believer in his 40th team at the university that's off to its best start since 1999. Michigan is reeling and is looking to avoid falling to 3-4 for the first time since 1967, but they're still talented and won't want to get embarrassed in front of a home crowd. The Nittany Lions are looking for a return to prominence, and the Wolverines are trying to salvage their season - neither will want to budge. It'll be entertaining, but Michigan can forget about what could have been, and start thinking 'next year.'...
