New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam said here today that the police personals in the country should be equipped with the latest technology so that they could be made more efficient and corruption free.

“The police station should become friendly to the police personnel who work there and the people,” said Kalam while addressing Director Generals of Police (DGPs), Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) and heads of Central Police Organisations at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

He said that continuous knowledge provision particularly to police constables and equipping them with latest technology and training could go a long way in achieving this goal.

“A police e-governance grid could be set-up to connect police stations to the DGP office through a government to government and government to citizen network to enable transparent police administration,” said Kalam.

Emphasising on the need for increasing police to citizen ratio, he said that the technology can be used to optimise the size of the police force. “The police force could be augmented for a police to citizen ratio of 1: 500 within the next three to five years,” he said.
